Here are some of the latest market developments from 5G-ENSURE partners Orange, Nokia and Ericsson reported by TelcomTV this week.
AR/VR
Orange has announced that from next month, its France-based “cinema services” subscribers will be able to access its entire catalogue of movies and TV shows in an immersive VR environment using Samsung’s Gear VR and Sony’s PlayStation VR. From December, it will test native VR content delivery with partner company Wevr. Source: Orange experiments with Virtual Reality
WiFi
Ericsson is managing WiFi connectivity for Deutsche Bahn's 386 high-speed ICE trains in Germany, in partnership with Icomera and its WiFi connectivity solutions. The onboard WiFi networks are connected to the RANs of all three of Germany's mobile network operators to ensure the best connectivity. Nokia is to launch a network planning and optimisation (NPO) transformation service to provide operators with greater agility to meet customer demand and tap into new business opportunities.
