5G-PPP Media & Analyst Event at Mobile World Congress 2016

5G is key to revolutionising industry and society, bringing about innovative disruptions in many different sectors. 

This is the main message emerging from the EC media event on 22 February at Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona.

MWC 2016 was chosen as the venue for launching 5G Public-Private Partnership whitepaper entitled “5G Empowering Vertical Industries”, by the European Commission and the 5G Infrastructure Association. The paper outlines how 5G network infrastructures will enable the digitalisation of society and economy, leading to the fourth industrial revolution, especially in the automotive, transportation, healthcare, energy, manufacturing as well as media and entertainment sectors.

During the media event, Mr. Günther H. Oettinger, European Commissioner, Digital Economy and Society, and executives from global top technology companies discussed the impact of 5G on digital society and digital economy, as well as requirements from vertical industries, business models, architectures and standardization aspects of 5G.
